Chemistry, Lead Teacher: Science
BS, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
MA, Concordia University Chicago
Since 2011, Marisa has taught all levels of Chemistry, ranging from introductory level Chemistry courses to AP Chemistry. At her previous school, she was a founding member of the Innovation Incubator group that utilized design thinking to create and implement a school-within-a-school model and a proud member of the Equal Opportunity Schools team where she worked to identify underrepresented students in order to improve access and increase equity in the AP program. In 2013, she was chosen as a Digedu (now Modern Teacher) Fellow and developed a year-long, blended learning curriculum, replete with Chemistry lesson plans and assessments to be used on mobile devices in classrooms across the country. Additionally, Marisa was awarded the Maitland P. Simmons Award for new teachers by the National Science Teachers Association. She spends her summers as a Chemistry Honors Instructor at Northwestern University’s Center for Talent Development. Each day she is excited to share her love of science and learning with the inspiring students of Wolcott. When she isn’t teaching, she’s spending time with her family and friends, experimenting with new recipes, or busily training her eager puppy Draven.
